I don't make products, I fulfill wishes. You can contact me for unique furniture that is custom made especially for you. In all cases, I am happy to listen to your wishes.
I like to create creative and unique designs. For example, a living room cabinet with a seating and play area for the children or a solid wooden farmhouse door. The ideas or wishes of the customer are leading in all cases. This allows me to provide you with furniture pieces that you always wanted but could never find anywhere. No idea is too crazy and I like to think along to make your wish come true. Although I generally deal with furniture and interior design, I also have enough experience to help you in the field of set construction. As long as you need new custom-made furniture, I'm here for you.
I have the Safety, Health and Environment (VCA VOL) certificate. This certificate is mandatory in the construction industry and shows that I have knowledge of safety, health and the environment and that I can apply this knowledge. I know the laws and regulations, can recognize dangerous situations and actions and know how to prevent them. This allows me to guarantee safety on the construction site.

CUSTOM FURNITURE
When you approach me to make your wish, we first have an exploratory conversation. Then I come by so that I can immediately see the current interior. This allows me to give better advice regarding the design, so that it is really tailor-made for your home. If you already have an idea or design, I will see if it is feasible.
3D DESIGN FURNITURE
I will work on the design based on your budget. I make a 3D sketch which I then present to you. If you agree, I will make a quote and start working on the construction drawing. The design is then created in a workshop and placed at your home as soon as it is ready.
CUSTOMIZED SUSTAINABLE FURNITURE
Sustainability is important to me. That is why I only use PEFC and FSC certified wood for the projects, which mainly comes from Europe. This is cultivated wood and therefore sustainable. There are more than enough beautiful types of wood available with which unique furniture can be made. I also use plywood. This material is structurally stronger than chipboard, so that the furniture lasts longer.
STEEL FURNITURE
It is also possible to call on me for other materials related to making furniture. Think, for example, of working with steel or spraying furniture. These skills can be applied if there is room for this within the project. I outsource these activities to reliable specialists.

WHO IS MERLIJN?
Where does your interest in making furniture come from?
I've always been a builder. I used to work with technical Lego and I built a lot with cigar boxes. Becoming a furniture maker was already a dream back then. It was a logical step to follow the Furniture Maker/Interior Builder course at the Wood and Furniture College in Amsterdam. I am happy that I am now realizing my dream with Merlijn Meubel & Interieurbouw.
What is the most memorable piece of furniture you have made to date?
Then I think of the piece of furniture I made for my house. We wanted a closet with enough storage space but also enough space to display memories. The idea arose from seeing tile patterns that I converted into elements, in order to create a playful setting.
People who want to have furniture made to measure will probably look for a furniture maker that fits their own style. Could you say that you have your own specific style?
I try not to stick to one style. I like to adapt to the wishes of the customer. I do have a preference for working with plywood, because you can create special effects with plywood.
Are there pieces of furniture that you have never made but that you would really like to make?
A lot! In any case, I'm far from finished. I expect to encounter many things that I have never built, but that I can work with. I like to take on a challenge and work with the most unique ideas. It's not crazy enough for me actually.
Are there other things you like to do besides making furniture?
Besides furniture maker, I have also been a drummer and street artist. As a street artist I participate in, among other things, parades. I have already had the opportunity to perform as many different characters within many different themes. The decorations are always very special and always fit perfectly with the themes. In addition, we have also been able to be at Mysteryland a number of times as special atmosphere creators. This is something for me where I can be creative again!
